  • Eurostat

Mean age of women at childbirth (annual, Europe)

Annual mean age of women at childbirth - the average age of mothers giving birth in the given year - for EU member states, EFTA countries, EU candidate countries and EU/euro-area aggregates. Eurostat dataset demo_find ('Fertility indicators'), filtered to freq=A, indic_de=AGEMOTH ('Mean age of women at childbirth'). Each row is one (year, country). Method: Eurostat compiles the indicator from national vital-statistics registers; it is a period mean over all births in the year, all birth orders combined. Units: years. Caveats: the mean rises with first-birth postponement - pair it with the total-fertility-rate dataset to separate the tempo effect (delayed births) from the quantum effect (fewer births); national breaks in vital-statistics series are flagged in Eurostat metadata; early years are sparse for newer member and candidate countries. Non-EU/EFTA/candidate countries (the UK, Kosovo, Russia, Belarus) are dropped (same licensing rule as the other Eurostat datasets). Coverage: 45 geographic units after the geo rule, 1960 to the present (1,892 observations), annual. Provenance: Eurostat keyless JSON-stat API, free reuse with attribution (Commission Decision 2011/833/EU) - please cite Eurostat. Primary key: (year, country_code). Join keys: country_code (ISO 3166-1 alpha-3), year. Cadence: refreshed yearly; Eurostat updates the demographic indicators in autumn (2026-09-22 vintage covers 1960-2024). Sample use: filter country_code='ITA' to track the postponement of childbearing in Italy over time.

  • Eurostat

    Total fertility rate (annual, Europe)

Annual total fertility rate - the mean number of children that would be born alive to a woman during her lifetime if she were to pass through her childbearing years conforming to the age-specific fertility rates of the given year - for EU member states, EFTA countries, EU candidate countries and EU/euro-area aggregates. Eurostat dataset demo_find ('Fertility indicators'), filtered to freq=A, indic_de=TOTFERRT ('Total fertility rate'). Each row is one (year, country). Method: Eurostat compiles the indicator from national vital-statistics registers; the TFR is a period measure, so it describes the fertility behaviour of a synthetic cohort, not any real generation of women. Units: children per woman. Caveats: the replacement level is about 2.1 children per woman in low-mortality populations - values below it signal long-run population decline absent net immigration; national breaks in vital-statistics series (e.g. territorial changes) are flagged in Eurostat metadata; early years are sparse for newer member and candidate countries. Non-EU/EFTA/candidate countries (the UK, Kosovo, Russia, Belarus) are dropped (same licensing rule as the other Eurostat datasets). Coverage: 45 geographic units after the geo rule, 1960 to the present (1,892 observations), annual. Provenance: Eurostat keyless JSON-stat API, free reuse with attribution (Commission Decision 2011/833/EU) - please cite Eurostat. Primary key: (year, country_code). Join keys: country_code (ISO 3166-1 alpha-3), year. Cadence: refreshed yearly; Eurostat updates the demographic indicators in autumn (2026-09-22 vintage covers 1960-2024). Sample use: filter country_code='FRA' to track the French fertility decline over time.

  • Demographic Transition Signals (derived)

Global demographic transition signals (aging, dependency, urbanization gauges)

Yearly demographic-structure signals for 200+ economies (1960 ->, keyless World Bank API): 65+ and working-age population shares, urbanization, and fertility, with 10-year changes, OLS trend slopes, 3-sigma anomaly flags vs a trailing 5-year baseline, 5-year linear-extrapolation forecasts, cross-country ranks, old-age dependency ratios, aging-speed gauges, super-aged (>20% 65+) and demographic-dividend flags, urbanization momentum, and below-replacement fertility flags. All rows carry normalized ISO country codes so they join cleanly with other macro data. Raw data: World Bank, World Development Indicators.

  • World Bank

Population ages 0-14 (% of total population)

Total population ages 0-14 as a percentage of the total population, for the 8-country panel (USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Japan, China, India). Population counts all residents regardless of legal status or citizenship. The World Bank publishes the indicator in the World Development Indicators from the United Nations Population Division's World Population Prospects (2024 Revision, or derived from male and female population). Pairs with the population-ages-65-and-above dataset: the two shares (plus the 15-64 residual) decompose the total population by age structure; declining child shares are the demographic side of the fertility decline. The 8-country panel is covered 2000-2025 with no upstream gaps observed; values are null where national statistics are unavailable and are never interpolated. Units: % of total population.

  • World Bank

Population counts all residents regardless of legal status or citizenship. The World Bank publishes the indicator in the World Development Indicators from the United Nations Population Division's World Population Prospects (2024 Revision, or derived from male and female population). Pairs with the population-ages-0-14 dataset: the two shares (plus the 15-64 residual) decompose the total population by age structure; together with the life-expectancy dataset they describe the demographic transition (e.g. Japan had the highest 65+ share of the panel in 2023 at about 29.6%, India the lowest at about 6.9%). The 8-country panel is covered 2000-2025 with no upstream gaps observed; values are null where national statistics are unavailable and are never interpolated. Units: % of total population.
