FAO forest area intelligence
Value-added country-year panel of the FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment 2025 via Our World in Data (keyless grapher CSVs, CC BY 4.0): forest area in hectares, annual net change in hectares and as a share of forest area, 1990-2025, for 230+ countries — with net-loss flags and cumulative change since the 1990 baseline. The deforestation ledger for supply-chain, ESG and sovereign-risk models; joins on (country_code, year) with the catalog's other country-year panels. Annual values between FRA assessment years are OWID linear interpolations of the FRA reports (per the series metadata).
FAOSTAT Forestry Intelligence
Forestry production and trade from FAO's FAOSTAT Forestry domain (FO): one row per (country, product, year), 1961-2024, ~240 countries and territories x ~83 forest products, with production, import and export quantities (tonnes for pulp & paper, m3 for solid wood), import/export values in thousand USD, and derived intelligence: net trade, trade balance, apparent consumption (production + imports - exports), the country's share of world production, the within-year world production rank, the trailing 10-year production change, the FAO observation flag and a deterministic row hash. Who joins this: timber-market analysts join apparent consumption on (area, item, year) to price panels to split demand shocks from supply shocks; trade desks read net trade and the trade balance to size exporters (Canadian sawnwood, Brazilian pulp); ESG analysts use production shares and ranks to map deforestation pressure to product markets.
