Homebrew formula install velocity (monthly)
Monthly install-velocity ranking of Homebrew formulae in the developer/data-tool ecosystem. The public keyless formulae.brew.sh analytics API supplies per-formula install-on-request counts (direct user installs, not dependency pulls) for the trailing 30d, 90d and 365d windows; the official formula.json supplies the metadata (description, license, homepage, version, oldnames/aliases, deprecated/disabled flags). Transform: (1) entity resolution — analytics names resolve onto canonical homebrew/core formula names via oldnames and aliases (third-party-tap installs such as hashicorp/tap/terraform are out of scope and dropped with a logged count); (2) quality gates — deprecated/disabled formulae dropped, description required, 30d on-request installs >= 1000, versioned formulae (names containing '@', e.g. python@3.13) excluded as out of scope; (3) a curated 16-category taxonomy by a deterministic ordered rule set over formula name + description (machine-learning, database, data-format, data-tool, visualization, cloud-devops, build-tools, programming-language, terminal, version-control, editor, compression, security, network, media, cli-utilities; formulae matching none are dropped as out of scope); (4) scoring — velocity_score = min-max-normalized log10(1 + installs_30d), growth_score = min-max-normalized growth of installs_30d versus the annualized 365d baseline (clipped to -100%/+1000%; new entrants pinned to the cap and flagged), trend_score = their 50/50 composite (0-100), trend_rank orders by trend_score descending (ties: installs_30d desc, then formula name), plus a pure-popularity velocity_rank, momentum_vs_quarter (30d vs the 90d mean month), and a breakout flag (>= 200% above baseline or new entrant). Every row carries the exact source API URLs behind its values. fetched_at is the analytics window end date (UTC day granularity), so re-ingesting the same window is a no-op. Primary key: (month, formula_name). Cadence: monthly. Nullability: license_id and homepage_url may be empty when upstream supplies none; scores and ranks are never null. Caveats: on-request installs still include some automated traffic (dotfile bootstraps); the taxonomy is a first-match heuristic, not an authoritative classification; license ids are maintainer-supplied and informational only. Sample use: order by trend_rank for the month's fastest-rising dev tools, or filter category = 'database'.

| Colonne | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| month | string | Calendar month of the analytics window end (e.g. 2026-09). Part of the primary key with formula_name. (unit: YYYY-MM) |
| fetched_at | string | — |
| formula_name | string | — |
| formula_url | string | Canonical public formula page URL (https://formulae.brew.sh/formula/<name>); never null. (unit: url) |
| tap | string | — |
| version | string | — |
| description | string | — |
| license_id | string | — |
| homepage_url | string | — |
| category | string | Curated category from a deterministic ordered rule set over formula name + description: machine-learning, database, data-format, data-tool, visualization, cloud-devops, build-tools, programming-language, terminal, version-control, editor, compression, security, network, media, or cli-utilities. First matching rule wins; a heuristic, not an authoritative classification. (unit: category) |
| installs_30d | integer | On-request installs over the trailing 30 days from the formulae.brew.sh analytics API: direct user installs, excluding dependency pulls. Still includes some automated traffic (dotfile bootstraps). (unit: installs) |
| installs_90d | integer | On-request installs over the trailing 90 days (same analytics API). (unit: installs) |
| installs_365d | integer | On-request installs over the trailing 365 days (same analytics API). (unit: installs) |
| expected_monthly_installs | float | Annualized baseline: installs_365d / (365/30). (unit: installs/month) |
| growth_vs_baseline | float | (installs_30d - expected_monthly_installs) / expected_monthly_installs, clipped to [-1.0, +10.0] (-100% to +1000%). New entrants (installs_365d = 0) are pinned to +10.0 and flagged. (unit: ratio) |
| momentum_vs_quarter | float | (installs_30d - installs_90d/3) / (installs_90d/3), clipped to [-1.0, +10.0]: momentum versus the mean 30-day slice of the trailing quarter. (unit: ratio) |
| new_entrant | integer | 1 when installs_365d = 0 (no on-request installs in the trailing year — e.g. newly added formulae); 0 otherwise. (unit: flag) |
| installs_share_30d_pct | float | 100 * installs_30d / total on-request installs across all formulae in the 30d window. (unit: percent) |
| velocity_score | float | Min-max-normalized log10(1 + installs_30d) within the snapshot, scaled 0-100. (unit: 0-100) |
| growth_score | float | Min-max-normalized growth_vs_baseline within the snapshot, scaled 0-100. (unit: 0-100) |
| trend_score | float | Install-velocity composite: 50% velocity_score + 50% growth_score, 0-100 within the snapshot. (unit: 0-100) |
| trend_rank | integer | Rank by trend_score descending (1 = fastest); ties broken by installs_30d, then formula name. (unit: rank) |
| velocity_rank | integer | Pure-popularity rank by installs_30d descending; ties broken by formula name. (unit: rank) |
| breakout_flag | integer | 1 when growth_vs_baseline >= 2.0 (>= 200% above the annualized baseline) or the formula is a new entrant; 0 otherwise. (unit: flag) |
| analytics_30d_source_url | string | Exact analytics API URL behind this row's installs_30d: the install-on-request 30d aggregate document on formulae.brew.sh. (unit: url) |
