Final energy consumption (annual, MTOE)

Annual final energy consumption in million tonnes of oil equivalent, for EU member states, EFTA countries, EU candidate countries and EU/euro-area aggregates. Eurostat dataset nrg_ind_eff ('Energy efficiency'), filtered to freq=A, nrg_bal=FEC_EED ('Final energy consumption - Energy Efficiency Directive') and unit=MTOE ('Million tonnes of oil equivalent'). Each row is one (year, country): all energy delivered to end users (industry, transport, households, services, agriculture) after transformation and distribution losses - the Energy Efficiency Directive's headline consumption metric. It complements the connector's energy-intensity dataset (efficiency per unit of GDP) with absolute levels, and the monthly electricity-available-to-market series (electricity only) with all energy carriers. Method: Eurostat compiles annual energy balances transmitted by the member states; non-EU/EFTA/candidate countries are dropped (same licensing rule). Units: million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE). Caveats: values mix real efficiency gains with structural change and weather effects; the EU27_2020 aggregate dominates the series; recent years are provisional and revised.
