  • Sovereign Debt Signals (derived)

Global sovereign debt & fiscal health signals (debt trajectories, anomalies, drift forecasts)

Annual ML-enriched sovereign debt signals for ~190 economies, derived from IMF World Economic Outlook data: government gross debt (% of GDP), 1-year and 5-year debt changes (percentage points), the current account balance (% of GDP) for twin-deficit analysis, 30-period change volatility, 3-year momentum, 3-sigma anomaly flags versus a trailing 10-year baseline, naive-drift 1-year forecasts, and a per-year cross-country volatility rank. Raw indicators: International Monetary Fund (World Economic Outlook); signals computed locally. All rows carry ISO alpha-3 country_code and join cleanly with other macro datasets.

  • Global External-Balance Signals (derived)

Global external-balance signals (current-account imbalance gauges)

Annual external-balance signals derived from the IMF DataMapper (current account balance, % of GDP, ~190 economies, 1980 ->): 1-year and 3-year changes, 30-year change volatility, 3-sigma anomaly flags vs a trailing-10-year baseline, naive-drift 1-year forecasts, per-year cross-country volatility ranks, 10-year balance z-scores, imbalance magnitudes, large-deficit and large-surplus flags, 3-year deterioration gauges and persistent-deficit flags. The external-imbalance companion to the WEO growth-momentum signals. Country codes normalized to verified ISO alpha-3. Raw data: International Monetary Fund (DataMapper, keyless API).

OECD Economic Outlook: current account balance

Current account balance as a percentage of GDP (OECD measure CBGDPR: "Current account balance as a percentage of GDP"), for OECD members, G20 non-members and major aggregates. Includes the Outlook's two-year projections. Unit: percent of GDP (UNIT_MEASURE=PT_B1GQ).

  • Statistics Canada

Canada goods trade flows by partner, quarterly

Quarterly Canadian goods trade flows (table 36-10-0023-01, balance of international payments, current account) from Statistics Canada: receipts (exports of goods) and payments (imports of goods), seasonally adjusted, in millions of Canadian dollars, for Canada's 27 principal trading partners plus the EU aggregate, the United Kingdom, 'Total of all countries' and 'Other countries not elsewhere classified'. Coverage 1997-Q1 to the present, complete (no upstream gaps at the time of writing). Caveats: partner series overlap — the 'European Union excluding the United Kingdom' aggregate contains the separately published member states (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain), so partner values are not additive; the latest quarter is occasionally revised. • Statistics Canada

Canada goods trade balances by partner, quarterly

Quarterly Canadian goods trade balances (table 36-10-0023-01, balance of international payments, current account) from Statistics Canada: receipts minus payments, seasonally adjusted, in millions of Canadian dollars, for Canada's 27 principal trading partners plus the EU aggregate, the United Kingdom, 'Total of all countries' and 'Other countries not elsewhere classified'. Coverage 1997-Q1 to the present. Negative values are genuine deficits (kept verbatim — e.g. Total of all countries 2026-Q1 = -6,397 before a 2026-Q2 surplus of 12,204). Caveats: partner series overlap (see the companion flows dataset), so partner balances are not additive; the latest quarter is occasionally revised. • Trade Balance Signals (derived)

US trade balance signals (deficit tracker, export/import momentum, anomalies, forecasts)

Signals derived from FRED's US international-trade series: 30-period annualized volatility of changes, 3-month momentum, year-over-year level change (balance series cross zero, so YoY is a level change, not a percent), 3-sigma anomaly flags, naive-drift 1-month forecasts, a per-date cross-series volatility rank, and a monthly trade-deficit tracker (positive = deficit) mapped onto every row's month. Covers BOPGSTB (monthly trade balance, goods & services), EXPGS/IMPGS (quarterly real exports/imports of goods & services) and NETEXP (quarterly real net exports). All rows are normalized to country_code USA so they join cleanly with US macro data. Raw series: Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED); underlying data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
