Annual US sales-tax burden intelligence from the keyless Tax Foundation 'State and Local Sales Tax Rates, Midyear 2026' table (as of July 1, 2026): one row per jurisdiction (50 states + DC) with the statewide rate and rank, population-weighted average local rate, maximum local rate, combined rate and rank, plus derived intelligence — local share of the combined burden, a state-driven/balanced/local-driven rate-driver classification, fixed-cut burden tiers, the January-to-July 2026 change flags with publisher-sourced notes, an above-national-average flag (7.53% benchmark), and a documented 0-100 burden score. Method: parse the publisher's TablePress table, resolve state names to USPS/ISO codes, verify the combined = statewide + local identity and the publisher's own totals (5 no-tax states, 38 local-tax states, top-5 combined ranking). Caveats: local rates are population-weighted averages — any single address can differ (see max_local_rate_pct); resort-area special taxes are excluded by the publisher; NJ's average local rate is negative (-0.02%) by construction (Urban Enterprise Zone half-rate). Original curation of public facts (rates set by state statute); commercial reuse allowed with attribution. Sources: Tax Foundation (Sales Tax Clearinghouse, TF calculations, state revenue-department websites).
