Dallas Fed Weekly Economic Index macro pulse (weekly)
Weekly US macro pulse from the Dallas Fed's Weekly Economic Index (keyless official workbook, 2008 to present): the WEI — the common component of ten daily/weekly consumer, labor and production series, scaled to four-quarter GDP growth — with trailing 4- and 13-week moving averages, week-over-week / 4-week / 13-week momentum, a trailing-52-week z-score, documented growth-regime labels (contraction / below-trend / trend / above-trend on the GDP-growth scale), contraction, above-trend and rapid-heating/cooling flags, and a contraction-episode streak counter. An online shop joins orders to week_ending for demand-regime features, a subscription business joins churn/dunning cohorts, and a sales team joins pipeline timing. Caveats: the WEI is a model-based nowcast, not observed GDP — weekly prints are noisy, so the 13-week moving average is the signal the Dallas Fed itself headlines; history is revised by the publisher. | Column | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| week_ending | string | Reference week: the Saturday ending the week, ISO date. The Dallas Fed publishes the WEI on Thursdays for the week ended the prior Saturday. Panel runs 2008-01-05 to the latest published week. (unit: ISO date) |
| country_code | string | ISO alpha-3 country code (USA for every row). (unit: ISO 3166-1 alpha-3) |
| wei_pct | float | Weekly Economic Index, kept verbatim as published: the common component of ten daily/weekly series covering consumer behavior, the labor market and production, scaled to align with the four-quarter GDP growth rate. (unit: percent) |
| wei_4w_ma | float | Trailing 4-week moving average of wei_pct. (unit: percent) |
| wei_13w_ma | float | Trailing 13-week (quarterly) moving average of wei_pct — the smooth gauge the Dallas Fed itself headlines each release. (unit: percent) |
| wei_wow_pp | float | Week-over-week change of wei_pct. (unit: percentage points) |
| wei_4w_pp | float | 4-week change of wei_pct. (unit: percentage points) |
| wei_13w_pp | float | 13-week change of wei_pct. (unit: percentage points) |
| wei_z52 | float | Trailing-52-week z-score of wei_pct (minimum 26 observations): how hot or cold the economy runs versus the past year. A zero within-window standard deviation maps to 0.0. (unit: z-score) |
| growth_regime | string | Documented rule on the GDP-growth scale: contraction (wei < 0), below_trend (0 <= wei < 2), trend (2 <= wei < 3), above_trend (wei >= 3); the 2% anchor is US trend real-GDP growth. (unit: label) |
| contraction_flag | integer | 1 when wei_pct < 0 (a weekly contraction print). (unit: binary) |
| above_trend_flag | integer | 1 when wei_pct >= 3 (above-trend growth). (unit: binary) |
| rapid_cooling_flag | integer | 1 when wei_wow_pp <= -0.5 (a sharp weekly deterioration). (unit: binary) |
| rapid_heating_flag | integer | 1 when wei_wow_pp >= +0.5 (a sharp weekly improvement). (unit: binary) |
| neg_streak | integer | Consecutive weeks with wei_pct < 0 ending this week (0 when the week itself is non-negative): the contraction-episode clock. (unit: count) |
| row_hash | string | Deterministic 16-hex row hash of week_ending (idempotency). |
