  • Demographic Transition Signals (derived)

Global demographic transition signals (aging, dependency, urbanization gauges)

Yearly demographic-structure signals for 200+ economies (1960 ->, keyless World Bank API): 65+ and working-age population shares, urbanization, and fertility, with 10-year changes, OLS trend slopes, 3-sigma anomaly flags vs a trailing 5-year baseline, 5-year linear-extrapolation forecasts, cross-country ranks, old-age dependency ratios, aging-speed gauges, super-aged (>20% 65+) and demographic-dividend flags, urbanization momentum, and below-replacement fertility flags. All rows carry normalized ISO country codes so they join cleanly with other macro data. Raw data: World Bank, World Development Indicators.

    Urban population growth (annual %)

Urban population growth is the exponential rate of growth of the urban population from year t-1 to t, expressed in percent (UN Population Division via the World Development Indicators). It complements the connector's urban-population-share dataset: share is the level, growth is the flow. Growth can be negative where the urban population is shrinking (Japan -0.37% in 2025, the only negative panel member). Urban areas are defined by national statistical offices, so cross-country comparisons carry definition noise. Fully covered 2000-2025 on the 8-country panel (India 1.76% / Germany 0.11% in 2025). Values are null where national statistics are unavailable and are never interpolated. Units: annual %.

Urban population (% of total population)

Urban population refers to people living in urban areas as defined by national statistical offices; the data are collected and smoothed by the UN Population Division and published by the World Bank in the World Development Indicators. Urbanization is measured as the share of a country's total de facto population living in urban areas. National definitions of 'urban' differ (administrative boundaries, population-size thresholds, infrastructure criteria), so cross-country comparisons carry definition noise - use as a covariate, not a league table. It joins the connector's population-total and population-growth datasets: total population x urban share = urban headcount. Fully covered 2000-2025 on the 8-country panel (USA 80.2% / India 35.7% in 2025). Values are bounded 0-100 by construction. Units: % of total population.
