Government interest expenditure, % of GDP (annual)

Annual general government interest payable (ESA 2010 item D.41, expenditure) as a percentage of GDP, for EU member states and EU/euro-area aggregates. Eurostat dataset gov_10dd_edpt1 ('Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data' - the Excessive Deficit Procedure notification table, ESA 2010), filtered to freq=A, sector=S13 (general government), unit=PC_GDP ('Percentage of gross domestic product (GDP)') and na_item=D41PAY ('Interest, expenditure'). Each row is one (year, country): the fiscal cost of servicing the public debt - the flow counterpart of the debt stock in 'gov-debt-by-instrument-annual'. Method: Eurostat compiles the EDP notifications transmitted by the member states each April and October; all 31 published geos are EU27 members or EU/euro-area aggregates, so the connector's commercial-use geo rule drops nothing here. Units: percent of GDP; values are >= 0. Caveats: interest follows the EDP D.41 definition, which unlike ESA 2010 D.41 treats flows from swaps and forward rate agreements as interest; the latest year is provisional and revised with each notification vintage; the EU27_2020, EA21, EA20 and EA19 aggregates are included as published. Coverage: ~31 geographic units, 1995 to the present, annual. Provenance: Eurostat keyless JSON-stat API, free reuse with attribution (Commission Decision 2011/833/EU) - please cite Eurostat. Primary key: (year, country_code). Join keys: country_code (ISO 3166-1 alpha-3), year. Cadence: refreshed yearly; Eurostat updates the table with each EDP notification (April/October). Sample use: filter country_code='ITA' to track Italy's debt-servicing burden over time.
