Federal spending by awarding agency, by fiscal year

Federal spending by awarding (top-tier) agency from USAspending.gov, the official U.S. federal spending open-data source operated by the Department of the Treasury's Bureau of the Fiscal Service under the DATA Act (https://api.usaspending.gov). Each row is one agency in one fiscal year: total obligated amount and total outlays in USD, aggregated over prime awards (spending_level=awards). Method: keyless POST to /api/v2/search/spending_by_category with category=awarding_agency and one time_period filter per fiscal year (Oct 1 - Sep 30) for the five most recent fiscal years; the window rolls forward automatically when a new fiscal year starts (October 1). Units: USD. Caveats: the current fiscal year is incomplete and is revised as agencies report; prime awards only (sub-awards excluded to avoid double counting). Coverage: U.S. federal agencies, fiscal years FY-4 through FY (currently 2022-2026), annual granularity. Provenance: USAspending.gov keyless API, U.S. public domain - please cite USAspending.gov, U.S. Department of the Treasury. Primary key: (fiscal_year, agency_code). Cadence: refreshed daily; a new snapshot appears only when agency totals change. Sample use: order by amount_usd desc within a fiscal year for the largest awarding agencies.
