Expense (% of GDP)
Expense - a decrease in net worth resulting from a transaction (current government expenditure) - as a share of GDP, for the 8-country panel (USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Japan, China, India). The World Bank publishes the indicator in the World Development Indicators from the Government Finance Statistics Yearbook and data files (International Monetary Fund); National Accounts data files (OECD). Pairs with the government-revenue-gdp-share dataset: expense minus revenue excluding grants approximates the overall fiscal balance, though it is not exactly the deficit because grants are excluded from the revenue figure. The 8-country panel is covered 2000-2025; values are null where national statistics are unavailable and are never interpolated. Units: % of GDP.
