US state UI claims intelligence (weekly)
Weekly US state unemployment-insurance claims intelligence from the DOL ETA-539 archive (keyless CSV): not-seasonally-adjusted initial claims plus insured unemployment and the insured unemployment rate for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, with YoY and 4-week-average momentum, a documented 0-100 layoff-pressure score with per-week state ranks, surge / easing / 52-week-record-low flags, and week-level national context. Trailing 5-year panel. Caveats: the latest week is advance data and is routinely revised; NSA claims carry seasonal noise around moving holidays. DOL material is U.S. federal public domain (commercial reuse allowed); source: U.S. Department of Labor.

| Colonne | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| week_ending | string | Report week ending (Saturday), ISO date. Initial-claims columns refer to this week. The panel covers the trailing 261 weeks (5 years). (unit: ISO date) |
| continued_week_ending | string | Reference week for the continued-claims columns (continued_claims_nsa, insured_unemployed_nsa, insured_unemployment_rate): one week before week_ending, matching the DOL release convention. (unit: ISO date) |
| country_code | string | ISO alpha-3 country code (USA for every row). (unit: ISO 3166-1 alpha-3) |
| state_code | string | Stable geography code: USPS postal abbreviation, lowercase (ca, tx, ny, ...; dc, pr, vi). Primary join key with week_ending. |
| state_name | string | State/territory name (e.g. California, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands). |
| initial_claims_nsa | integer | Published not-seasonally-adjusted state UI initial claims for the report week (ETA-539 item 1). (unit: claims) |
| initial_claims_yoy_pct | float | Year-over-year percent change of initial claims vs the same week 52 weeks earlier. (unit: percent) |
| initial_claims_4wk_ma | float | Trailing 4-week moving average of NSA initial claims (minimum 4 observations). (unit: claims) |
| continued_claims_nsa | integer | Published state UI adjusted continued weeks claimed (ETA-539 item 6), referring to continued_week_ending. (unit: weeks claimed) |
| continued_claims_yoy_pct | float | Year-over-year percent change of continued weeks claimed vs 52 weeks earlier. (unit: percent) |
| insured_unemployed_nsa | integer | Published insured unemployed count (ETA-539), referring to continued_week_ending. (unit: persons) |
| insured_unemployment_rate | float | Published insured unemployment rate = insured unemployed * 100 / covered employment (ETA-539 item 19), referring to continued_week_ending. Nulled on rows failing the record-layout arithmetic gate (see rate_artifact_flag). (unit: percent) |
| iur_yoy_pp | float | Year-over-year change of the insured unemployment rate vs 52 weeks earlier. (unit: percentage points) |
| rate_artifact_flag | integer | 1 when the published IUR failed the record-layout arithmetic gate (|published - insured*100/covered| > 0.02): the counts are kept, the rate is nulled. Genuine upstream artifact, never interpolated. (unit: binary) |
| layoff_pressure_score | float | Documented 0-100 composite: 100 * (0.60 * min-max(winsorized initial_claims_yoy_pct, -50/+75) + 0.40 * min-max(winsorized iur_yoy_pp, +/-2.5)), min-maxed within each report week across the 53 geos. Higher = worse layoff pressure versus peers that week. (unit: 0-100 score) |
| layoff_pressure_rank | integer | Per-week rank of layoff_pressure_score across the 53 geos (1 = worst pressure). (unit: rank) |
| claims_surge_flag | integer | 1 when initial_claims_yoy_pct >= +20%. (unit: binary) |
| claims_easing_flag | integer | 1 when initial_claims_yoy_pct <= -20%. (unit: binary) |
| record_low_52wk_flag | integer | 1 when initial claims equal the trailing-52-week minimum (minimum 52 observations). (unit: binary) |
| us_initial_claims_nsa | integer | Week-level context: 53-geo sum of NSA initial claims. The DOL advance national total is computed independently, so this is context, not an identity. (unit: claims) |
| state_share_of_us_pct | float | Week-level context: the state's share of us_initial_claims_nsa. (unit: percent) |
| us_insured_unemployed_nsa | integer | Week-level context: 53-geo sum of insured unemployed. (unit: persons) |
| dol_record_status | string | DOL ETA-539 record-status code carried verbatim (E/B), never interpreted. |
| dol_status_change_date | string | DOL ETA-539 status-change date carried verbatim (a Saturday for E, a Sunday for B, per Handbook 402 Appendix C), never interpreted. (unit: ISO date) |
| row_hash | string | Deterministic 16-hex row hash of state_code + week_ending (idempotency). |
