Long-standing illness or health problem (annual, Europe)

Annual share of the population aged 16 and over reporting a long-standing illness or health problem, for EU member states, EFTA countries, EU candidate countries and EU/euro-area aggregates. Eurostat dataset hlth_silc_11 ('People having a long-standing illness or health problem, by sex, age and income quintile'), filtered to unit=PC ('Percentage'), quant_inc=TOTAL ('Total'), age=Y_GE16 ('16 years or over') and sex=T ('Total'). Each row is one (year, country). Method: Eurostat compiles the EU Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) microdata transmitted by the member states; the illness figure is self-reported in the annual EU-SILC interview and covers any illness or health problem expected to last (or having lasted) at least six months. Non-EU/EFTA/candidate countries are dropped (same licensing rule as the other Eurostat datasets; the UK and Kosovo are dropped). Units: percent of the 16+ population. Caveats: the indicator is subjective (self-reported health), so cross-country differences mix real morbidity with reporting culture; Germany has a genuine upstream gap for 2021; the EU27_2020 and EA21 aggregates are included as published.
