Heavy financial burden of debt repayments (annual)

Annual share of the population reporting the repayment of debts from hire purchases or loans as a heavy financial burden (subjective perception), for EU member states, EFTA countries, EU candidate countries and EU/euro-area aggregates. Eurostat dataset ilc_mded05 ('Financial burden of the repayment of debts from hire purchases or loans'), filtered to freq=A, hhcomp=TOTAL ('Total' population), rskpovth=TOTAL (all income groups), lev_bur=HVY ('Heavy') and unit=PC ('Percentage'), from EU-SILC. Each row is one (year, country). Method: Eurostat compiles EU-SILC microdata transmitted by the member states; respondents self-report how much of a financial burden the repayment of debts from hire purchases or loans is; non-EU/EFTA/candidate countries are dropped (same licensing rule as the other Eurostat datasets). Units: percent of population. Caveats: this is a subjective indicator and not directly comparable across countries' survey implementations; it measures hire-purchase and loan repayments, not mortgage repayments (see the heavy-housing-cost-burden dataset for the housing-cost perception); the UK and Kosovo (XK) are dropped by the connector's commercial-use geo rule; the EU, EU27_2020, EU28, EU27_2007, EA and EA21 aggregates are included as published. Coverage: ~44 geographic units after the geo rule, 2003 to the present, annual. Provenance: Eurostat keyless JSON-stat API, free reuse with attribution (Commission Decision 2011/833/EU) - please cite Eurostat. Primary key: (year, country_code). Join keys: country_code (ISO 3166-1 alpha-3), year. Cadence: refreshed yearly; Eurostat updates EU-SILC indicators in autumn.
