People at risk of poverty or social exclusion (AROPE)

Annual share of the population at risk of poverty or social exclusion (AROPE), the EU headline indicator that unions three sub-indicators: the at-risk-of-poverty rate (income below 60% of the national median), severe material and social deprivation, and living in a household with very low work intensity. Each row is one (year, country), for EU member states, EFTA countries, EU candidate countries and EU/euro-area aggregates. Eurostat dataset ilc_peps01n ('Persons at risk of poverty or social exclusion by age and sex'), filtered to the headline definition: unit PC (percent of population), total population, both sexes. Method: Eurostat compiles EU-SILC microdata transmitted by the member states; non-EU/EFTA/ candidate countries are dropped (same licensing rule as the other Eurostat datasets). Units: percent of population. Caveats: the 2021 EU-SILC methodological revision redefined AROPE (severe material and social deprivation replaced severe material deprivation; new low-work-intensity definition), so 2021-onwards values are not comparable with earlier years for some countries; income data refer to the year before the survey year; the UK is dropped by the connector's commercial-use geo rule; the EU, EU27_2020, EU28, EA and EA21 aggregates are included as published. Coverage: ~44 geographic units after the geo rule, 2015 to the present, annual.
