Gross capital formation as a share of GDP - the investment side of the national accounts: acquisitions less disposals of produced assets for fixed capital formation, inventories or valuables - for the 8-country panel (USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Japan, China, India). The World Bank publishes the indicator in the World Development Indicators. It is the investment leg of the savings-investment identity alongside the connector's gross-savings dataset: savings minus investment is the economy's net lending/net borrowing. China's investment rate tops the panel every fixture year (41.13% of GDP in 2023) while the UK is lowest (18.46% in 2023); all 2021-2023 cells are published on the panel, no upstream gaps. Values are null where national statistics are unavailable and are never interpolated. Units: % of GDP.

Savings is the part of disposable income not spent on final consumption; gross savings are calculated as gross national income less total consumption, plus net transfers. The World Bank publishes the indicator in the World Development Indicators as the savings leg of the savings-investment identity alongside the connector's gross-capital-formation dataset: savings minus investment is the economy's net lending/net borrowing. China saves the most of the panel every fixture year (42.57% of GDP in 2023) and the UK the least (14.89% in 2023); the USA's 2023 gap - 17.14% savings against 21.57% investment - is a genuine net-borrowing position kept verbatim.
