Annual share of disposable household income absorbed by rent for the occupied dwelling, split by at-risk-of-poverty status, for EU member states, EFTA countries, EU candidate countries and EU/euro-area aggregates. Eurostat dataset ilc_mded02 ('Share of rent related to occupied dwelling in disposable household income, by type of household and income group'), filtered to freq=A, hhcomp=TOTAL ('Total' population), rskpovth=A_60 ('Above 60%') and B_60 ('Below 60%' of median equivalised income) and unit=PC ('Percentage'), from EU-SILC. Each row is one (year, country, poverty status). The below-poverty-threshold group (B_60) devotes a markedly higher share of its disposable income to rent than the above-threshold group (A_60) in the vast majority of published country-years - the gap is the signal: rent pressure tracks the poverty gradient, and the continuous share exposes depth that the binary overburden threshold (40%) hides. (A few scattered early-year inversions in Bulgaria, Hungary, Ireland, Lithuania, Romania and Slovakia are genuine upstream quirks, kept verbatim.) Method: Eurostat compiles EU-SILC microdata transmitted by the member states; rent refers to the occupied dwelling; non-EU/EFTA/candidate countries are dropped (same licensing rule as the other Eurostat datasets). Units: percent of disposable household income. Caveats: the at-risk-of-poverty threshold is 60% of national median equivalised disposable income after social transfers; EU-SILC income data refer to the year before the survey year; the 2021 EU-SILC methodological revision breaks comparability with pre-2021 values for some countries; the UK and Kosovo (XK) are dropped by the connector's commercial-use geo rule; the EU, EU27_2020, EU28, EU27_2007, EA, EA18, EA19, EA20 and EA21 aggregates are included as published. Coverage: ~44 geographic units after the geo rule, 2003 to the present, annual, in two poverty-status groups.
