Eurostat
Annual rail freight transport in million tonne-kilometres, by reporting country, for EU member states, EFTA countries, EU candidates and EU aggregates. Eurostat dataset rail_go_total ('Goods transported'), unit MIO_TKM (million tonne-kilometres). Each row is one (year, country): the total freight moved by rail in the reporting country, counting both national and international traffic loaded or unloaded there. Method: Eurostat compiles rail freight statistics reported by national statistical offices; non-EU/EFTA/candidate countries (notably the UK) are dropped by the connector's commercial-use geo rule. Units: million tonne-kilometres (tkm). Caveats: countries without a rail network (e.g. Malta, Cyprus) report no values; the EU27_2020, EU28 and EU27_2007 aggregates are included as published; recent years are provisional and revised. Coverage: ~36 geographic units after the geo rule, 2004 to the present, annual. Provenance: Eurostat keyless JSON-stat API, free reuse with attribution (Commission Decision 2011/833/EU) - please cite Eurostat. Primary key: (year, country_code). Join keys: country_code (ISO 3166-1 alpha-3), year. Cadence: refreshed yearly; Eurostat publishes the annual series each autumn. Sample use: filter country_code='DEU' to track German rail freight over time.

Monthly goods-demand signals derived from FRED US transport data (Cass shipments, freight transportation services index, rail carloads): month-on-month and year-on-year changes, 30-month change volatility, 3-sigma anomaly flags vs a trailing-12-month baseline, drift forecasts, per-month cross-series volatility ranks, and a composite freight-momentum z-score with slowdown/surge flags. The transport-flow companion to the industrial-production and trade signals. Country codes normalized to ISO alpha-3 (USA). Raw data: Cass Information Systems / Bureau of Transportation Statistics / Association of American Railroads via FRED.
