Population-weighted exposure to ambient PM2.5 pollution - the average level of exposure of a nation's population to concentrations of suspended particles measuring less than 2.5 microns in aerodynamic diameter, which are capable of penetrating deep into the respiratory tract and causing severe health damage - for the 8-country panel (USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Japan, China, India). Exposure is calculated by weighting mean annual concentrations of PM2.5 by population in both urban and rural areas. The World Bank publishes the indicator in the World Development Indicators from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023 (GBD 2023) air-pollution exposure estimates (IHME). India runs an order of magnitude above the low-exposure panel members throughout (Canada, Japan, USA). The 8-country panel is covered 2000-2023 in the live vintage (2024-2025 are null upstream - a genuine GBD reporting lag, never interpolated). Units: micrograms per cubic meter.
