Statistics Canada
Monthly Canadian retail e-commerce demand panel, 2017-01 onward (115 rows as of the July 2026 reference month), from Statistics Canada table 20-10-0056-01: the 'Retail e-commerce sales' and 'Total retail sales' measures for Canada, seasonally adjusted and unadjusted (thousands of CAD, kept verbatim). Method: the four WDS series are pivoted to one row per month; the e-commerce share of total retail is derived for both adjustments; month-over-month and year-over-year growth, 3-month annualized momentum, a trailing-36-month z-score of the seasonally adjusted share, a penetration index (share indexed to the 2019 mean = 100), a rising/stable/falling regime label, a raw-seasonality November/December holiday-peak flag, a November Black-Friday surge ratio, and a trailing-36-month record-share flag are computed in code with fail-loud gates, including verification anchors from StatCan's own July 2026 release narrative (July 2026: e-commerce -3.5% MoM, 7.5% share; June 2026: 7.7% share). Caveats: the latest month is preliminary and revised; the e-commerce series is Canada-only (no provincial split exists upstream); November/December unadjusted spikes are raw seasonality — use seasonally adjusted columns for underlying demand; z-score/flag columns are null for the first 35 months.
