School enrollment, secondary (% gross)

The gross enrollment ratio for secondary education is total enrollment at that level, regardless of age, expressed as a percentage of the population of the official secondary-school age group. Secondary education completes the provision of basic education that began at the primary level, and aims at laying the foundations for lifelong learning and human development, by offering more subject- or skill-oriented instruction using more specialized teachers. It is sourced from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics via the World Bank World Development Indicators, and is updated annually. The ratio can exceed 100% because of late entry, grade repetition, and over-age or under-age enrollment. The 8-country panel is covered 2000-2025; values are null where national statistics are unavailable (China reports no values for 2020-2022), and are never zero-filled. Together with the connector's primary and tertiary enrollment datasets this completes the three-level enrollment picture. Units: percent, gross.
