Population growth (annual %)
Annual population growth rate - the exponential rate of growth of midyear population from year t-1 to t, expressed as a percentage - for the 8-country panel (USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Japan, China, India). Population is based on the de facto definition of population, which counts all residents regardless of legal status or citizenship. The World Bank publishes the indicator in the World Development Indicators from the United Nations World Population Prospects (UN Population Division) and national statistical offices. Growth reflects the balance of births, deaths and net migration: negative readings are genuine population shrinkage (Japan is negative throughout the panel), never dropped. It pairs with the connector's total-population dataset (growth rate against levels) and the age-structure shares (working-age contributions to growth). The 8-country panel is fully covered 2000-2025 with no upstream gaps observed - values are null where national statistics are unavailable and are never interpolated. Units: annual percent.
