Intentional homicides (per 100,000 people)
Estimated rate of intentional homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, for the 8-country panel (USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Japan, China, India). An intentional homicide is defined as an unlawful death inflicted upon a person with the intent to cause death or serious injury. The World Bank publishes the indicator in the World Development Indicators from the UNODC Research Data Portal (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, intentional homicide statistics). It complements the connector-free Eurostat crime datasets: the UNODC/WHO-sourced global series extends homicide measurement to the USA, Canada, Japan, China and India. Reporting lags differ by country (the latest observed year is 2023 for most, 2022 for India, 2021 for the UK, 2020 for China) — genuine upstream gaps, kept verbatim. The 8-country panel is covered 2000-2023; values are null where national statistics are unavailable and are never interpolated. Units: homicides per 100,000 people.
