Canadian field-crop harvest intelligence (annual)
Annual Canadian field-crop harvest intelligence from Statistics Canada table 32-10-0359-01 (principal field crops, metric units): seeded area (hectares), average yield (kilograms per hectare) and production (metric tonnes) for 12 crops — all, durum and spring wheat, barley, oats, canola, corn for grain, soybeans, dry peas, lentils, flaxseed and rye — across Canada and the provinces where each crop is meaningfully grown (79 crop x province series, 237 vectors, complete annual record 2014 onward). Each series is scored against its own recent agronomic trend: yield_gap_z is the current yield's deviation from the trailing-5-year mean in standard deviations (the harvest-surprise signal, scored from 2019 onward), and a documented 0-100 harvest_outlook_score min-maxes the clipped yield gap within each crop-year across peer provinces with a per-crop-year harvest rank. Bumper (z >= 1.0) and shortfall (z <= -1.0) flags mark standout harvests, province production shares and Canada-level yield context are carried on every row, and year-over-year change is computed for all three dispositions. Caveats: the latest year is provisional and may be revised; yields are simple reported averages, not experimental measurements; upstream suppressions are dropped with a loud gate (none in the curated window). Coverage: Canada + up to 9 provinces per crop, 2014 to the latest published year, yearly granularity. Provenance: Statistics Canada Web Data Service (keyless WDS), 237 curated vector ids verified against the full-table CSV; Statistics Canada Open Licence (commercial reuse allowed; attribution required). Primary key: (crop_code, geo_code, year). Join keys: country_code (ISO 3166-1 alpha-3, always CAN), year. Cadence: yearly.

| Column | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| year | integer | Reference year (annual series; REF_DATE carries the year with a January anchor). The panel covers the consistent methodology window 2014 onward (every curated vector is complete from 2014; earlier years excluded). (unit: year) |
| country_code | string | ISO alpha-3 country code (CAN for every row). (unit: ISO 3166-1 alpha-3) |
| crop_code | string | Stable crop code: wheat_all, wheat_durum, wheat_spring, barley, oats, canola, corn_grain, soybeans, peas_dry, lentils, flaxseed, rye_all. Primary join key with geo_code and year. |
| crop_name | string | Provider-verbatim crop name from the StatCan table. |
| geo_code | string | Stable geography code: canada (national headline) or a province (nl, pei, ns, nb, qc, on, mb, sk, ab, bc). Only provinces where the crop is meaningfully grown are curated per crop. Primary join key with crop_code and year. |
| geo_name | string | Provider-verbatim geography name from the StatCan table. |
| is_headline | integer | 1 for the Canada row, 0 for provinces. The headline carries no harvest-outlook score or rank. (unit: binary) |
| seeded_area_ha | float | Published seeded area, kept verbatim. (unit: hectares) |
| yield_kg_per_ha | float | Published average yield, kept verbatim. Yields are simple averages of reported production over harvested area, not experimental measurements. (unit: kg/ha) |
| production_t | float | Published production, kept verbatim. (unit: metric tonnes) |
| yield_gap_z | float | Harvest-surprise signal: (yield - trailing-5-year mean) / trailing-5-year sample standard deviation. Positive = the series beat its recent agronomic trend; negative = it missed. Null for the first five window years (2014-2018; first scored year is 2019) and when the trailing window is constant. (unit: standard deviations) |
| area_yoy_pct | float | Year-over-year percent change of seeded area. Null for the first window year. (unit: percent) |
| yield_yoy_pct | float | Year-over-year percent change of yield. Null for the first window year. (unit: percent) |
| prod_yoy_pct | float | Year-over-year percent change of production. Null for the first window year. (unit: percent) |
| harvest_outlook_score | float | Documented 0-100 composite: 100 * min-max of the yield gap clipped to +/-2 standard deviations, min-maxed within each (crop, year) across the scored provinces. Higher = the standout harvest versus peer provinces this year. Degenerate years score 50.0 neutral. Null for the Canada headline and where the gap is null. (unit: 0-100 score) |
| harvest_rank | integer | Per-(crop, year) rank of harvest_outlook_score across the scored provinces (1 = best harvest). Null for the Canada headline and where the score is null. (unit: rank) |
| bumper_flag | integer | 1 when yield_gap_z >= 1.0 (a one-standard-deviation bumper harvest). (unit: binary) |
| shortfall_flag | integer | 1 when yield_gap_z <= -1.0 (a one-standard-deviation harvest shortfall). (unit: binary) |
| province_share_of_national_prod_pct | float | The province's production as a percentage of the published Canada total that year (100.0 on the Canada headline row). (unit: percent) |
| canada_yield_kg_per_ha | float | Year-level context: the published Canada yield for this crop and year. (unit: kg/ha) |
| canada_yield_gap_z | float | Year-level context: the Canada yield's own trailing-5-year z-score. (unit: standard deviations) |
| canada_yield_yoy_pct | float | Year-level context: year-over-year percent change of the Canada yield. (unit: percent) |
| source_table | string | StatCan product ID behind the row (32100359). |
| row_hash | string | Deterministic 16-hex row hash of crop_code + geo_code + year (idempotency). |
