Share reporting housing costs a heavy burden (annual)

Annual share of the population reporting their total housing cost as a heavy financial burden (subjective perception), for EU member states, EFTA countries, EU candidate countries and EU/euro-area aggregates. Eurostat dataset ilc_mded04 ('Financial burden of the total housing cost'), filtered to total household population, all income groups, burden level HVY ('Heavy'), unit PC (percent of population). Each row is one (year, country). Method: Eurostat compiles EU-SILC microdata transmitted by the member states; housing costs include rent or mortgage interest, utilities and insurance, net of housing allowances; non-EU/EFTA/candidate countries are dropped (same licensing rule as the other Eurostat datasets). Units: percent of population. Caveats: this is a subjective indicator and not directly comparable across countries' survey implementations; the UK is dropped by the connector's commercial-use geo rule; the EU, EU27_2020, EU28, EA and EA21 aggregates are included as published.
